Final Project

For my Final Project, I would like to create and manage a School District Web Site that allows varying levels of access to administrators, teachers, students and parents.  Creating this web site will assist me in learning and better understanding the type of information and access required by the various groups of school users.  In addition, this exercise will help familiarize me with the technology and software interfaces required to support a school district's technology needs and requirements.

I am in the process of purchasing 'PHP for the World Wide Wed 3rd Edition by Larry Ullman.  Although I have not developed web sites using PHP, I do have a familiarity with native html and have created and maintained simple web sites using native html and applications to develope web sites such as MS Front Page.  While I am awaiting delivery of this book, I will begin researching the use of PHP and gathering web design ideas for school district content and applications.  In addition, I will need to become more familiar with data bases and create, manage and query the data bases that will be required to support a school district web site.  This site should allow teachers to view and update student records and grades, as well as, to publish assignments and comments that will be available to the students in the teacher's respective classes.  Students will need to have the ability to view their class assignments and submit assignments through the school web interface.  Parents should have the ability to see their children's school assignments, grades and to be able to communicate with the teacher regarding their child's assignments grades and progress.  Administrator's will need access to evry student and teacher's information contained on the school web site.   These are just a few of the inital ideas that I hope to incorporate into a school web site

Hello, my name is John and I am currently working as an IT Project Manager where I manage technical implementation projects such as: installing new servers and/or software upgrades, network upgrades and new network implementations, etc.  In this function, I do not perform the actual technical work but manage and coordinate the efforts of highly technical system Administrators (SAs) or Data Base administrators (DBAs), etc.  Prior to my current position, I was a special eduction teacher and hope to marry my prior educational experience with my current technical experience and work in a school system as a Technical Coordinator.
